Itinerary 5-day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Dades Valley

Begin your 5-day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga with pick-up from your Marrakech hotel or airport. Head south through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the picturesque Tizi-n-Tichka pass. Along the way, stop for photos then Continue to the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and known for its roles in major films and TV series After exploring the historic fortress, travel to Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Desert,” where you will have lunch. In the afternoon, pass through the palm groves of Skoura and the Valley of Roses, known for its fragrant flowers. Arrival in Boumalne Dades, dinner and overnight in a hotel in the picturesque Dades Gorges.

Day 2: Dades valley - Todra Gorge - sahara desert merzouga

After breakfast at your hotel in Boumalne Dades, begin your journey toward the striking Todra Gorge. The Todra River has shaped this dramatic canyon, where limestone cliffs rise up to 300 meters. Take time for a short walk through the gorge and capture some photos of the impressive scenery.

Continue on through the Berber villages of Tinghir and see the green palm groves that stretch across the Tafilalt region. Pause along the way for lunch before reaching Merzouga, known as the entrance to the Sahara Desert.

In the late afternoon, swap your 4×4 for a camel and ride across the orange dunes of Erg Chebbi as the sun sets. Your journey leads to a desert camp set among the dunes, where you can relax with a traditional Moroccan dinner. Spend the night around the campfire with Berber music, then sleep under the stars in the heart of the desert.

Day 3: Merzouga Area — Gnaoua Village — Nomadic Families

Consider even waking up early for the sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast at camp. Rather than rushing off, take the time to explore the desert region surrounding Merzouga for the day.

Khamlia Village: Located near Merzouga, Khamlia is one of the traditional villages and it has the unique habitants there who are the Gnaoua people where you can listen to their very spiritually music. We continue to tour aboard a 4×4 where we visit nomadic families, oases hidden in the desert. Go back to your hotel or camp late afternoon and experience another evening of peace in the Sahara.

Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani -Agdz — Ouarzazate

Rise early that morning to watch the sun come up over the dunes. After breakfast, you choose camel or 4×4 back to Merzouga desert sahara and you’ll start the journey towards the west. Travel through the heart of the desert, pass Rissani, believed to be where the Alaouite dynasty originated from and head on to Alnif and N’Kob, both towns well known for their rich Berber culture.

Travel across the Draa Valley with its luxurious palm groves and historic kasbahs. Afterwards drive to Agdz and then to Ouarzazate, night accommodation.

DAY 4: Ouarzazate – Berber Villages - High Atlas Mountains - Marrakech

on the last day of 5-day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Breakfast then we leave Ouarzazate back to Marrakech by the beautiful route. Take in the colors of remote Berber villages, terraced valleys and multi-hued High Atlas Mountains as we head back over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass.
