Itinerary 2 day Fez to Marrakech desert tour
Day 1: Fes - Ifrane - Middle Atlas Mountain - Ziz Valley - Merzouga
On the first day of 2 day Fez to Marrakech desert tour We’ll start by driving for about an hour to Ifrane, which is also known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” due to its similar architecture and weather. Once we arrive, we’ll take a 15–20 minute break. Feel free to take a short walk, grab a cup of coffee, or use the restrooms. After that, we’ll drive for about 30 minutes to the cedar forest in Michlifen, where we’ll stop for another 20 minutes. You’ll have the chance to take some photos with the wild macaque monkeys that live in the area. From there, we’ll continue across the Timahdite fields, a nomadic region where you’ll see large flocks of sheep. Then, we’ll descend from the Middle Atlas Mountains—this is where the landscape starts to change and the arid desert climate begins to appear, along with a noticeable shift in colors. We’ll continue driving along the winding road through the Ziz Valley, which is a very scenic route, all the way to the largest date palm oasis in the region. We’ll make a short stop at a viewpoint so you can take some pictures. After that, we’ll continue on to Merzouga. Once we arrive, camels will be waiting to take us on a ride from the village to the desert camp. The camel ride takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. When we reach the camp, you’ll be welcomed with a cup of tea, and the staff will show you to your tent. You’ll also have time to try sandboarding and enjoy the sunset near the camp. After dinner, there will be a bonfire with live traditional music performed by the staff. If you feel like dancing a little, you’re more than welcome to join in! That’s the plan for today—enjoy the experience!
